A History of USOs

USOs (Unidentified Submerged Objects) have become a central issue of the UAP debate in these last few years.  American ufologist Richard Dolan just released the first of three volumes aimed to be a complete worldwide catalogue of such phenomena.

USOs have long been a secondary feature within ufology. Only a few researchers have devoted book-length treatments in the XX century. Until now, the most complete project was Carl Feindt’s “WaterUFO”: an international catalogue of 1,600 USO reports and a book published in 2010, with a second edition in 2016.

February 2025 saw the release of a new book on the topic, which is the first in a series of three volumes by American ufologist Richard Dolan.

“A History of USOs, Unidentified Submerged Objects, Beginnings to 1969” will soon be followed by two more volumes, covering the years 1970 to 2024, for a total of more than 600 USO sightings which occurred in seas, rivers and lakes all around the world.

In this first volume (413 pages), Dolan focuses on 178 reports, offering  a detailed reconstruction of each case history, the essential data, a list of the main known sources, and  a  world map showing  the location. Several color illustrations by Allan Lavigne provide a visual dimension to the narratives.

Researchers   will  appreciate the Introduction which explains cataloguing methods used, as well as Appendixes offering special tables and statistics. Those two sections could well be a “stand-alone” book on how to do serious cataloguing of UFO (here: USO) reports.
